There's something about exchanging vows surrounded by woodland that no ballroom or function room can replicate. The canopy overhead, dappled light filtering through the branches, birdsong rather than background music. If you've been picturing a woodland wedding, Bridal Barn offers exactly that — a 100-acre country estate where ancient trees and open countryside form the backdrop to your day.
Our woodland, known as Bridal Coppice, has carried its name for centuries, having once been gifted as part of a dowry. It's a setting with real history woven into the landscape, not a manufactured woodland backdrop but a living, breathing part of the Shropshire countryside.
Say Your Vows in the Forest
Our elevated forest viewing point is one of three licensed ceremony spaces at Bridal Barn, and it's the one that stops couples in their tracks during viewings.
Nestled within Bridal Coppice, this outdoor ceremony space sits on a natural rise with views stretching across the surrounding countryside. You'll walk through the trees to reach your guests, already seated and waiting. It's intimate, unhurried, and unlike anything a traditional venue can offer.
The woodland ceremony space seats up to 80 guests comfortably. Festoon lights are threaded through the canopy above, meaning as the light shifts through the day the atmosphere changes with it. Morning ceremonies feel fresh and sun-dappled. Later ceremonies take on a warmer, more golden quality.
For couples who love the idea of a woodland ceremony but want a backup plan, our courtyard tipi and rustic hay barn provide two additional licensed options on the same estate. You won't need to choose a completely different venue if the weather turns — just a different corner of it.
What Makes a Woodland Wedding Different
A woodland setting changes the feel of a wedding in ways that go beyond aesthetics. The space between the trees creates a natural sense of intimacy. Guests aren't sitting in rows in a large open room — they're gathered together in a clearing, surrounded by nature, with a sense of occasion that feels both grand and personal.
Photographers love woodland weddings for obvious reasons. The interplay of light and shadow, the textures of bark and foliage, and the natural framing the trees provide mean your photos won't look like everyone else's. Every season brings something different too — spring bluebells, summer green, autumn colour, winter branches against pale skies.
The woodland also gives your guests space to explore between the ceremony and reception. Rather than milling around a car park or crowding a single room, couples often use the courtyard for drinks and lawn games while the barn is turned around for the wedding breakfast. The estate is large enough that your wedding day has a sense of journey to it — moving through different spaces as the day unfolds.
Beyond the Ceremony: A Woodland Estate Wedding
While the forest ceremony space is the centrepiece for many woodland weddings here, the entire estate has that same countryside character.
The courtyard sits between the barn and the tipi, perfect for outdoor drinks, street food vendors, or a relaxed festival feel on a warm evening. The barn itself is a beautifully restored space with exposed beams and fairy lights — rustic without being rough around the edges.
Because Bridal Barn operates as an exclusive use venue, the whole estate is privately yours for three full days. You can use the woodland as a backdrop for photos, set up garden games on the lawns, or simply enjoy the peace of being surrounded by 100 acres of countryside with no one else around.
Styling a Woodland Wedding
One of the advantages of choosing a venue with genuine natural beauty is that you don't need to overdo the décor. The woodland and barn do much of the heavy lifting.
That said, couples take the woodland theme in all sorts of directions here. Some lean into a natural palette — greenery, dried flowers, wooden signage, candlelight. Others contrast the rustic setting with something more contemporary or colourful. Because you have full access from noon the day before your wedding, there's proper time to style the space exactly as you've imagined.
As a dry hire venue, you have complete creative freedom. There's no house décor package to work around and no restrictions on bringing in your own suppliers, props, or styling elements. The barn is essentially a beautiful blank canvas set within an extraordinary natural landscape.
Your Caterers, Your Menu
Woodland weddings and relaxed, seasonal food go hand in hand. At Bridal Barn, you choose your own caterers and design your own menus, so the food can be as creative or traditional as you like.
Many couples with a woodland theme lean into seasonal, locally sourced menus — sharing platters, slow-cooked meats, foraged-inspired dishes. Others bring in street food traders to serve from the courtyard, creating a relaxed, festival atmosphere. Pizza vans, hog roasts, wood-fired ovens — the setting lends itself perfectly to outdoor catering with character.
There's no minimum spend on catering and no approved supplier list you're forced to use. We do keep a recommended suppliers directory of caterers who know the venue well, but the choice is entirely yours.
